Borger Animal Services Looking for Dog Owner After Bite
Borger Animal Services is asking for the public's help after a person was bitten by a dog Saturday morning in the 600 block of Evergreen Street. Officials said the dog ran across the street, bit the victim on the leg and chased them until they climbed onto a nearby truck for safety. The dog is described as a medium-sized Fox Terrier mix, mostly white with brown and black markings and a long tail. Anyone who recognizes the dog or knows who owns it is asked to contact Borger Animal Services at (806) 273-0973 or email dmilum@borgertx.gov.
Pleasant Valley Picnic Brings Neighbors Together
Pleasant Valley Park was filled with families Saturday as residents gathered for the community's first Picnic and Care Fair. The event offered free food, school supplies, backpacks, snow cones and local resources, while also celebrating a new mural at 4607 River Road. Organizers say the picnic was about more than a fun afternoon—it was a chance to reconnect neighbors and build momentum for ongoing efforts to clean up and improve the neighborhood. The Pleasant Valley River Road Revitalization Group will keep that momentum going with a community cleanup next weekend.
Christmas in July Drive Gets Head Start on Holiday Giving
Christmas came a little early thanks to DeBault Title and Rick Looby Homes, which hosted their second annual Christmas in July fundraiser. Guests brought a toy or bicycle for admission and enjoyed live music, fireworks and free food while helping stock Toys for Tots and Bikes for Kids. Every donation will go to children in need this Christmas. Last year's event helped provide bikes to more than 300 children, and organizers hope to help even more families this year.
Bushland ISD Deputy Earns Statewide Honor
A Potter County sheriff's deputy is being recognized for the difference she's making in local schools. Deputy Julie O'Brien, who serves as the school resource officer for Bushland ISD, was named the 2026 School Resource Officer of the Year by the Texas Association of School Resource Officers. The award honors officers who go above and beyond to protect students while building trust and positive relationships on campus. O'Brien has served with the Potter County Sheriff's Office since 2010 and is the second deputy from the department to receive the honor in the past two years.
