Six people were hospitalized following a Wednesday evening shooting at the Plum Creek Apartments located in the 5900 block of Plum Creek, according to an update released by the Amarillo Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 8 p.m., where investigators say a confrontation between two individuals escalated into a shooting. Authorities described the incident as stemming from a “gang-related dispute,” during which both individuals allegedly exchanged gunfire.
Police said the two primary individuals involved were injured in the exchange, along with four additional bystanders who were in the surrounding area at the time. All six victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted at the scene, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Potter County Sheriff's Office. According to police, at least one person was apprehended by DPS while attempting to leave the area.
As of Thursday morning, the Amarillo Police Department said the investigation remains active. Officials indicated that further details will be released as they become available.
