Second Amarillo park shooting this week leaves one injured


Amarillo police are investigating a Friday night shooting at Memorial Park that left one person injured, marking the second such incident at a city park in less than a week.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, located in the 2500 block of South Washington Street near Southwest 26th Avenue and adjacent to Amarillo College.

When officers arrived, they found an individual suffering from injuries sustained during the shooting. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released information regarding the victim's condition.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any suspects involved.

The shooting comes just days after another park-related shooting in Amarillo. On Tuesday night, a person was injured during a shooting at Thompson Park, also occurring around 9:30 p.m. The two incidents have raised concerns after two separate shootings at city parks within a four-day span.
