The Amarillo Police Department said a man was arrested for intoxicated assault following an early Thursday morning crash involving a patrol vehicle near Bayswater Road and Coulter Street. According to police, 28-year-old Micah Glenn Lacy was driving south on Coulter Street around 2 a.m. when his vehicle allegedly struck the rear of a patrol unit traveling in the same direction. Both vehicles spun out of control following the collision. The officer was treated and released from a hospital, while Lacy was medically cleared and then arrested on a charge of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.
TEXAS Outdoor Musical Celebrates 60th Season
The TEXAS Outdoor Musical Drama will mark its 60th season at Palo Duro Canyon State Park, opening June 11 and continuing through Aug. 1. Artistic Director Cloyce Kuhnert, who has been involved with the production since 1980, said the milestone highlights the enduring legacy of the show, which tells the story of Texas Panhandle settlement in the 1880s through music, dance and theater. More than 60 performers from across the country will appear on stage Tuesday through Sunday at the Pioneer Amphitheatre. The season also includes July performances of Shakespeare in the Canyon’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” directed by Rachel Dawson. Visitors can enjoy barbecue dinners, live Western music and free park admission after 4 p.m. The state’s official play draws tens of thousands of visitors annually, contributes an estimated $34 million to the regional economy and has received national recognition as a leading North American attraction.
Canyon Farmers’ Market Opens Summer Season
The Canyon Farmers’ Market opens Saturday, June 6, in downtown Canyon and will operate every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon through Sept. 26. Liz Hensley said organizers are excited to welcome vendors and shoppers back for another season featuring locally produced goods. Since launching in 2014 with about a dozen vendors, the market has expanded to 117 vendors this year, along with food trucks located on the west side of the Square. Shoppers can find fresh produce, flowers, meat, eggs, baked goods, honey, artisan crafts and several new specialty products. Vendors are required to live within 100 miles of Canyon. Weekly children’s activities, local musicians and special performances will provide entertainment throughout the season, while junior vendors ages 11 to 18 are encouraged to participate. The season will conclude with the Autumn Street Fest on Sept. 26 and will also feature additional events, including a Moon Market and a December Merry Market.
AISD Summer Feeding Program Underway
Amarillo ISD’s summer feeding program is available Monday through Friday at more than 20 district schools through June 26. The program provides free meals to children and teens younger than 18, as well as enrolled students with disabilities up to age 21. Breakfast is served from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m., and lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to noon. All meals must be consumed on site. Families can visit the AISD website for a complete list of participating locations.
