Two dead, several injured in overnight shooting in Amarillo

A deadly overnight shooting in Amarillo has left two people dead and several others injured, according to police.

Amarillo police officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of South Coulter. Authorities said the incident stemmed from a gathering involving “juveniles and young adults” that had initially begun at a different location before moving to the apartment.

Preliminary information indicates that several individuals were asked to leave the original party. Police said those individuals later followed attendees to the Coulter address, attempted to enter an apartment, and opened fire using a “rifle-style” weapon.

Two people were confirmed dead at the scene, while multiple others sustained gunshot wounds. The conditions of the injured have not been released.

Police have not released further details about the shooters, including whether any suspects have been identified or arrests made.

The shooting comes less than six weeks after a series of violent incidents on March 22 in Amarillo left six people dead and 10 others injured, raising continued concerns about public safety in the area.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as new details emerge.
