Teen charged in deadly Amarillo apartment shooting that left 2 dead, 10 injured


A 17-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in Amarillo earlier this month that left two teenagers dead and multiple others injured.

On Wednesday, May 20, homicide detectives with the Amarillo Police Department obtained a murder warrant for Jame Htoo, 17, in connection with the May 2 incident at the Westminster Apartments. Htoo was already being held in the Potter County Jail on unrelated charges when the warrant was obtained, according to the department. The investigation remains ongoing.

Deven Antonucci, 16, and Ezekiel Rudy Almazan, 17, were killed and 10 people were injured in the shooting at a party early May 2 at an apartment in the Westminster Apartments complex in the 2400 block of South Coulter in Amarillo. According to investigators, a party that began at another location was later moved to the Coulter area address, involving both juveniles and young adults.

Preliminary information indicates several individuals were asked to leave the original location, and those individuals later followed attendees to the Coulter site, attempted to enter an apartment, and opened fire using a rifle-style weapon, according to police.

The investigation continues as authorities review evidence and additional leads related to the case developing situation ongoing.
