Authorities in western Oklahoma are investigating the death of a missing man who was later identified as a candidate for the Oklahoma State Senate.
On April 30, 2026, the Sayre Police Department requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in connection with a missing persons case. The request followed a report received on April 29 regarding 54-year-old Barry Christian, who had last been seen the previous day in Sayre, Oklahoma.
The case took a tragic turn on the morning of April 30. At approximately 9:45 a.m., deputies from Beckham County located Christian’s vehicle in the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area, situated just south of Erick, Oklahoma.
While processing the scene, OSBI special agents discovered a body inside the vehicle. The individual was later positively identified as Barry Christian. Authorities also confirmed that Christian was a candidate for the Oklahoma State Senate, adding a significant public dimension to the case.
Christian’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where officials will work to determine the exact cause and manner of death. At this time, investigators have not released further details, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
