Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Returns Saturday

High Plains Food Bank is partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this Saturday. Residents can leave nonperishable food items like canned goods, pasta, and peanut butter by their mailboxes for pickup during regular mail delivery. Since 1993, the nationwide effort has collected more than 1.8 billion pounds of food, helping address food insecurity that affects 1 in 6 people locally, including 1 in 5 children.

Community Rallies After Fatal Plane Crash

The Amarillo community is coming together to support families grieving the loss of five individuals in a recent plane crash: Seren Wilson, Stacy Hedrick, Brooke Skypala, Glen Appling, and Hayden Dillard. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency is accepting applications for the Emergency Conservation Program to assist producers impacted by wildfires in Potter, Armstrong, and Oldham counties between Feb. 15 and April 11, 2026. The program offers up to 75% cost-share assistance, with a maximum of $500,000 per event, for efforts such as debris removal, land restoration, and fence repair. Applications are open through June 3, and producers must contact FSA before beginning work to remain eligible.

Gas Prices Spike Across Amarillo and Beyond

Gas prices in Amarillo jumped 35.7 cents over the past week, reaching an average of $3.80 per gallon—up significantly from both last month and last year. Prices locally ranged from $3.59 to $4.59 on Sunday, while statewide prices varied from $3.09 to $5.29. Nationally, gas averages climbed to $4.42 per gallon, with diesel also rising to about $5.62. Analysts point to refinery outages and tight supply, though some relief could come as production adjusts.
