Amarillo Animal Shelter Promotes Pet Pantry, Adoption Event
The City of Amarillo’s Animal Management and Welfare department is encouraging residents in need to utilize its pet pantry program at the city shelter, located at 3501 S. Osage St. The pantry is intended to assist pet owners facing temporary financial hardship and help reduce the number of animals surrendered to shelters.
Since the beginning of 2026 through early May, the program has served 537 residents, distributing more than 1,300 bags of dog food and nearly 500 bags of cat food. Shelter officials say the pantry depends heavily on community donations, with dry cat food, wet dog food, flea and tick treatments, collars, leashes, toys, and treats among the most needed items.
Residents can donate supplies during regular business hours or purchase items through the shelter’s Amazon wishlist. Pet owners seeking assistance can access the pantry through the shelter’s reclaims office.
Animal Management and Welfare also announced a special adoption promotion May 23–25, offering 50% off adoption fees for long-stay animals. Additional discounts will be available for students based on report card grades.
