Court documents have provided a detailed reconstruction of the May 2 mass shooting that left two people dead and ten others injured in Amarillo, Texas. The filings outline a sequence of events that began with a reported disturbance and escalated into a coordinated shooting tied to multiple suspects, surveillance tracking, and subsequent arrests.
The investigation describes how law enforcement linked witness statements, video surveillance, vehicle tracking systems, and forensic evidence to identify individuals allegedly involved in the shooting. The case has since resulted in multiple first-degree murder charges and ongoing custody of several suspects at the Potter County Jail.
Initial Call and Early Response
According to court records, law enforcement officers were initially dispatched to the Westminster Apartments after reports of a possible burglary in progress. The call quickly escalated when shots were reported in the same area shortly after officers were alerted.
When police arrived, they encountered a chaotic scene involving multiple victims and bystanders suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported several individuals for urgent treatment, while others were treated at the scene.
Two victims were later confirmed deceased as a result of their injuries: Ezekiel Almazan, who died at the scene, and Deven Antonnuci, who died after being transported to a hospital. Ten additional individuals were injured, several of whom required emergency surgery due to the severity of their wounds.
Witness Accounts and the Preceding Party
As part of the homicide investigation, detectives interviewed multiple witnesses who described events that began earlier in the day at a social gathering on Mississippi Street. The party had reportedly been promoted through social media, attracting a large number of attendees.
Witnesses stated that a group of individuals arrived at the residence and that at least one person in the group was carrying a firearm described as a compact rifle resembling a shortened AR-style weapon. The firearm was described as metallic in color, appearing gray or silver, and was concealed in the waistband of one individual.
According to these accounts, the group attempted to enter the home while visibly armed but was denied access by those hosting the gathering. After being refused entry, the group left the location, and the party was subsequently shut down.
Investigators believe this interaction marked the beginning of the confrontation that would later move to a second location.
Movement to Westminster Apartments
Court documents indicate that after leaving Mississippi Street, the same group traveled to the Westminster Apartments, where the shooting occurred shortly thereafter. Investigators determined that the transition between locations was rapid, suggesting coordination and movement within a short timeframe.
The shooting that followed resulted in multiple victims being struck by gunfire outside or near the apartment complex. Evidence collected at the scene later played a central role in linking suspects and weapons to the incident.
Digital Surveillance and Vehicle Tracking
A significant portion of the investigation relied on surveillance technology, including license plate readers and camera networks. Authorities identified a suspect vehicle described as a black SUV believed to have been involved in the shooting.
Correctional facility communications also reportedly included conversations referencing the incident, which further assisted investigators in developing leads.
Using surveillance systems, officers tracked the SUV leaving the Westminster Apartments with its lights off and traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s license plate was traced to a residence on Northwest 17th, which became a key location in the investigation.
Surveillance units observed a vehicle arriving at that residence earlier in the day. At that time, a male individual was seen approaching the SUV carrying a large bag. Investigators believed the bag likely contained a rifle or long gun, which was then placed in the vehicle’s trunk before it departed the location.
Traffic Stop and Early Arrests
Law enforcement later observed the suspect SUV committing a traffic violation by running a stop sign, prompting a traffic stop. During the stop, all four occupants were removed from the vehicle. According to court records, none of the occupants agreed to participate in custodial interviews.
Several arrests were made at the scene based on weapons violations and related charges.
One passenger, Aniseth Ndayiragije, was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon. The driver, Sahola Moa Eh, was arrested for traffic-related offenses observed during the stop.
Another passenger, Eh Win, was identified as the individual allegedly seen placing the large bag into the vehicle’s trunk earlier in the day. He was arrested for failure to identify and unlawful carrying of a weapon by a gang member. He was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
A fourth occupant, Excellent Vyizigiro, was also arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon by a gang member. He was later re-arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Firearms Recovery and Forensic Analysis
Following the traffic stop, investigators obtained a search warrant for the SUV. Inside the vehicle, authorities recovered two firearms: a semi-automatic AM-15 rifle and a Micro Draco handgun.
Forensic testing reportedly confirmed that shell casings recovered at the Westminster Apartments scene matched rounds test-fired from the recovered weapons. This ballistic linkage strengthened the connection between the firearms and the shooting.
Witness identification procedures also contributed to the investigation. One witness identified Eh Win in a lineup as the individual seen carrying the weapon at the Mississippi Street gathering.
Surveillance Video and Suspect Identification
Additional video evidence placed the suspect vehicle near Bluebell Drive hours before the shooting. Investigators reviewed footage showing individuals exiting and entering the SUV, including a tall male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with white lettering, dark pants, and distinctive black-and-white sneakers.
Another individual wearing a gray patterned hoodie was seen entering the front passenger seat of the vehicle. These clothing descriptions were later matched to individuals observed in separate footage recorded near the shooting location.
A separate video recorded in an alley near Gainsborough reportedly showed a shooter fleeing the scene, with clothing consistent with those earlier observations.
Identification of Additional Suspect
Investigators identified the individual in the red hoodie as Jame Htoo. Records indicate he had an outstanding warrant related to a parole violation through the Texas Juvenile Justice system and had been sought by authorities for several weeks prior to his arrest.
Forensic evidence further tied him to the scene. Shoe impressions found at the crime location matched footwear associated with him, and prints recovered from the suspect SUV were also linked to his presence.
On May 11, officers located Htoo at a residence where items of interest, including clothing matching surveillance footage, were observed. Investigators were granted consent to search the residence, and Htoo’s father reportedly identified him in surveillance footage shown by officers.
Digital Evidence and Phone Data
Investigators also obtained a search warrant for Eh Win’s mobile phone. Analysis of location data reportedly showed movement consistent with the suspect vehicle’s travel route.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on the night of the incident, the device’s location data indicated eastbound movement along Interstate 40 near Bell Street, aligning with surveillance tracking of the SUV. Investigators used this digital evidence to reinforce the timeline connecting the suspects to the shooting.
Arrest Timeline and Charges
Htoo was initially arrested on May 20 for evading arrest and disorderly conduct. The following day, he was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
Eh Win and Excellent Vyizigiro were also charged with two counts of first-degree murder following their initial arrests and subsequent investigative findings.
All three individuals remain in custody at the Potter County Jail as the case continues to move through the judicial process.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities continue to review digital evidence, forensic results, and witness testimony as part of the broader investigation into the May 2 shooting. Court documents suggest that the case involved coordinated movement between multiple locations, use of firearms recovered during a vehicle search, and extensive surveillance tracking across the city.
