College soccer opportunities are becoming a familiar story at Canyon High School, and two more Eagles are preparing to continue their careers at the next level. Seniors Brice Chaffin and Aspen Esch officially signed this week, adding another milestone to a successful year for Canyon soccer.
Chaffin signed with Lubbock Christian University to join the men’s soccer program competing in the Lone Star Conference. The Canyon standout helped lead the Eagles to an 11-8-3 record during his senior season, providing leadership and consistency throughout the year.
His signing marks the next step in a journey built on years of support from family, teammates and coaches. Chaffin developed into one of Canyon’s key contributors while balancing the demands of club soccer, school competition and offseason training. That work ethic helped open the door to the collegiate level.
Lubbock Christian finished the 2025 season with an 8-8-4 overall record and posted a strong mark in conference play. Chaffin now joins a program looking to continue building within one of the region’s toughest conferences.
On the girls side, Canyon star Aspen Esch signed with Eastern New Mexico University after helping guide the Lady Eagles to another postseason appearance.
Esch made an impact as a center forward and became one of the team’s most reliable offensive players during her career. Her signing represents more than athletics alone. While excelling on the field, Esch also completed work toward a cosmetology license before graduation, showing the same dedication in the classroom and career preparation that she displayed in competition.
The opportunity to stay close to family played a major role in her decision. Eastern New Mexico offered both a welcoming environment and a chance to remain connected to home while continuing her soccer career in the Lone Star Conference. Esch plans to study marketing while competing for the Greyhounds.
Canyon girls soccer coach Adriana Cavazos said Esch’s path to college soccer developed over time as the player gradually realized she could compete at the next level. According to Cavazos, Eastern New Mexico coaches noticed Esch during a match and saw the potential that Canyon coaches had recognized for years.
