Amarillo Sod Poodles (10-11) defeated the San Antonio Missions (5-16), 3-2 in 10 innings, on Sunday afternoon at Nelson Wolff Stadium. The victory marked another extra-innings win in the series and extended Amarillo’s winning momentum after a tightly contested matchup.
Roman Angelo made his first start of the season but worked only 1.2 innings, allowing one run as the Missions struck early. Offensively, Amarillo struggled through seven innings, as three San Antonio pitchers kept the lineup scoreless and limited quality scoring chances.
The bullpen kept the game within reach. Jonatan Bernal and Antonio Menendez combined for 4.1 scoreless innings, stabilizing the effort and setting up a late comeback opportunity.
The offense finally broke through in the eighth inning when Junior Franco launched a first-pitch solo home run to right field off Michael Flynn, tying the game and marking his second home run of the season.
Both teams’ relievers held firm in the ninth. Harry Gustin and Alfred Morillo each delivered clean innings, forcing a second straight extra-inning game between the clubs.
In the 10th, Amarillo capitalized on a wild pitch that advanced Jansel Luis to third after he began the inning as the automatic runner. Danny Serretti followed with a sacrifice fly that gave the Sod Poodles their first lead of the game.
San Antonio responded in the bottom half as Carson Tucker opened the inning with a triple and later scored. Closer Hayden Durke escaped damage by recording key outs with the winning run at third and bases loaded ending on a warning-track flyout.
