Matt Medley named head football coach and athletic director

The Hereford Whitefaces are turning the page with a new leader, as Matt Medley steps in as head football coach and athletic director following his selection as the lone finalist during Monday night’s board meeting. He officially accepted the role Tuesday morning, signaling a fresh start for a program eager to rebound.

Medley arrives from Medina Valley, where he spent the past five seasons as offensive coordinator, helping shape a competitive identity on that side of the ball. Though this marks his first opportunity as a head coach, he brings nearly two decades of experience, including time at Midland High. That background gives him a deep understanding of program building, player development, and the day-to-day demands of leading student-athletes.

What drew Medley to Hereford was the culture. The community’s reputation for valuing athletics, combined with a strong base of hardworking, competitive students, made the job especially appealing. He sees a program with pride, structure, and administrative support already in place—key ingredients for long-term success.

Medley emphasizes accountability, trust, and leadership as the pillars of his approach. His vision extends beyond the football field, focusing equally on boys and girls athletics while preparing athletes for life after high school. He aims to create an environment where players buy in, compete hard, and develop a clear plan for their future.

The challenge is immediate. The Whitefaces are coming off a 2-8 season, leaving plenty of room for growth. With Medley now at the helm, Hereford is betting that experience, culture, and vision can translate into a turnaround—and perhaps the beginning of a new era.
