The Amarillo City Council is scheduled to convene Tuesday afternoon for a regular meeting that will cover a wide range of infrastructure, budgeting, and community development topics, including potential cost recovery strategies for city services, new housing development partnerships, and several utility and land use projects.
The meeting is set to begin at 3 p.m. Residents who wish to address the council during public comment may sign up online, contact the City Secretary’s Office by phone at 806-378-3014, or register in person at least 15 minutes before the start of the session.
A significant portion of the agenda focuses on long-term planning and infrastructure. City officials are expected to review updates tied to Fiscal Year 2025–2026 construction projects, including ongoing capital improvements across Amarillo. Among the highlighted items is a design request related to a wastewater extension project near 58th Street and Osage, as well as a presentation on a draft environmental information document connected to the proposed Hollywood Road II Wastewater Treatment Facility, a project that has been under consideration to expand the city’s wastewater capacity.
Budget and administrative planning will also be a central focus. Council members are expected to consider a resolution directing the city manager to evaluate and develop cost recovery options for various municipal services as part of preparation for the Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget cycle. These discussions are intended to assess how certain city operations may be funded more sustainably in the coming years.
Several consent agenda items will also be reviewed, including rezoning requests and the potential approval of a construction contract with Habitat for Humanity for a new home project on North Monroe Street. The organization has played a long-standing role in Amarillo’s housing development efforts, contributing to the construction or rehabilitation of more than 120 homes locally. Additional consent items include the possible purchase of equipment for city services such as solid waste collection trucks and dumpsters.
The council will also consider agreements involving youth and community programming, including a lease arrangement with Kids, Inc., which supports recreational opportunities for local children.
Under non-consent items, council members are expected to discuss ordinances involving land use changes, including vacation and rezoning requests for specific properties. Two resolutions will also be considered to authorize the city to pursue and distribute state funding connected to major upcoming events, including the 2026 Working Ranch Cowboy’s Association World Championship Rodeo and the 2026 AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships, both of which are expected to draw significant visitors and economic activity to the region.
