Amarillo has a new financial leader. The City of Amarillo (COA) has officially appointed Omolola “Lola” Ogunremi as its next chief financial officer (CFO), with her tentative start date set for early April. The announcement came during Tuesday’s city council meeting, marking the end of a competitive search for the city’s top financial post.
City Manager Grayson Path emphasized Ogunremi’s strong qualifications and the importance of the CFO role. “Following a competitive and thorough search that included a wide array of exceptional candidates, we are pleased to announce Lola Ogunremi as chief financial officer for the City of Amarillo,” Path said. He added, “This is a vitally important position for the city. Lola has a strong and extensive professional background that fulfills the requirements of having deep expertise in municipal finance, long-range financial planning, debt management and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to elected officials, staff and the public. We are excited to welcome Lola Ogunremi to Amarillo.”
Ogunremi arrives in Amarillo from Bowie, Maryland, where she served as assistant finance director, overseeing the city’s annual operating and capital budgets. She has more than 18 years of experience in financial management, business consulting, economic research, and accounting. Her credentials are equally impressive: she holds a Ph.D. in economics from Howard University, an MBA in computer information systems from Baruch College, and a BS in accounting from Brooklyn College. Ogunremi is also a licensed certified public accountant (CPA).
As Amarillo’s CFO, she will oversee a $557 million city budget and lead more than 2,500 employees across the city’s full-service organization. Her role includes guiding the Finance Department in accounting, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring that the city maintains efficiency and transparency while planning for the future.
City officials noted that the search for the CFO was highly competitive, drawing candidates with a wide range of experience and expertise. Ogunremi’s selection underscores Amarillo’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, strategic planning, and clear communication with both city leadership and residents.
Residents and local leaders alike are optimistic that Ogunremi’s combination of experience and education will strengthen Amarillo’s financial strategy, improve internal operations, and ensure that city resources are managed effectively. Her leadership is expected to help the city navigate current budget challenges while setting the stage for sustainable growth in the years ahead.
