Homecoming on the fairways: Ryan Palmer set to headline Amarillo’s new pro golf era

Professional golf is making a long-awaited return to the Texas Panhandle — and one of Amarillo’s own is planning to be part of it.

Ryan Palmer, an Amarillo native and four-time winner on the PGA TOUR, has announced his intention to compete in the inaugural OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank this summer.

Palmer’s commitment comes as part of a new partnership with The OccuNet Company. While his participation remains dependent on his PGA TOUR eligibility status at the time, the expectation is that the hometown favorite will tee it up in June.

“Growing up here in Amarillo, this is truly my home,” Palmer said. “I’m excited professional golf is coming back and to be playing in front of my hometown community for the inaugural OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National.”

The event marks a significant moment for Amarillo, bringing high-level professional competition back to the area — and giving local fans a rare chance to see one of their own compete on home soil.

Tournament Director Drew Blass emphasized the importance of Palmer’s involvement:

“We are truly excited to have Ryan Palmer’s commitment and support of this event and the community,” said OccuNet Classic Tournament Director Drew Blass. “He has had an incredible career on the PGA TOUR and to bring his success to our inaugural event in his hometown is huge. We hope everybody will come out and give him a warm welcome home at the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank.”

Set for June 11–14 at Tascosa Golf Club, the tournament will feature rising stars from the Korn Ferry Tour — the proving ground for golf’s next generation.

For Amarillo — and for Palmer — this isn’t just another stop on the schedule. It’s a full-circle moment in Amarillo.

This summer, hometown pride and the future of professional golf will share the same fairways.
