Tyler Robinson said he 'had enough of' Charlie Kirk

Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspected of assassinating Charlie Kirk, said he “had enough of” the conservative activist’s “hatred” in a text chain with his roommate in Utah, according to charging documents unveiled Tuesday.

Authorities spoke with Robinson’s roommate, who is transgender and romantically linked to the 22-year-old Utah resident accused of shooting and killing Kirk on Wednesday at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem.

Robinson’s roommate confirmed receiving text messages from him about the Wednesday shooting, which the roommate provided to law enforcement.

The day of the shooting, the roommate received a text from Robinson that said, “drop what you are doing, look under my keyboard.” Under it, the roommate found a note that said “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it,” according to prosecutors.

Police found a photo of the note.

“I am still ok my love, but am stuck in [Orem] for a little while longer yet. Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still. To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you,” Robinson said over text.

“You weren’t the one who did it right????” the roommate asked, according to the court filings.

“I am, I’m sorry,” Robinson texted.

“I thought they caught the person?” the roommate said.

“No, they grabbed some crazy old dude, then interrogated someone in similar clothing. I had planned to grab my rifle from my drop point shortly after, but most of that side of town got locked down. Its quiet, almost enough to get out, but theres one vehicle lingering,” Robinson told the roommate, referring to the 71-year-old man first arrested Wednesday.

When asked why he killed Kirk, Robinson said, “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out. If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on. I haven’t seen anything about them finding it.”

Robinson said he planned the shooting for “a bit.”

During the text exchange, Robinson also mentioned the engravings on the bullets.

“Remember how I was engraving bullets? The f‑‑‑ing messages are mostly a big meme, if I see ‘notices bulge uwu’ on [Fox News] I might have a stroke alright [I’m] gonna have to leave it, that really f‑‑‑ing sucks,” the suspected shooter wrote.

DNA consistent with Robinson was discovered on the riffle’s trigger, other parts of the weapon, the fired cartridge casing, two of the three unused cartridges and the towel, the Tuesday filings state.

Robinson was arrested by authorities late Thursday after a 33-hour search. He confessed to his father, who then told officials and secured Robinson until he was picked up by authorities.

In the text exchange, Robinson said he would turn himself in and asked his partner not to talk to the news media.

“Don’t take any interviews or make any comments. … if any police ask you questions ask for a lawyer and stay silent,” Robinson said.

The state of Utah is seeking the death penalty against Robinson, announcing seven state charges, including one of aggravated murder, on Tuesday.

Robinson’s mother told police that over the past year, the suspect had become “more political and had started to lean more to the left – becoming more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented.”

After Robinson started dating his roommate, there were “several discussions with family members, but especially between Robinson and his father, who have very different political views,” his mother told law enforcement.

In one conversation before the shooting, Robinson mentioned that Kirk would be holding an event in Utah, which Robinson said was a “stupid venue” for the event. Robinson accused Kirk of spreading hate, his mother told police, according to the documents.
