A late-night shooting at a north Amarillo event center left two teenage girls wounded after a fight escalated into gunfire, police said.
Just after midnight on Sunday, September 28, Amarillo police officers responded to reports of shots fired at an event center near Northwest 6th Avenue and Tyler Street.
When officers arrived, they discovered two teenage victims had been struck by gunfire. One girl was rushed to a local hospital by private vehicle, while the other was later found injured at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard and North Polk Street.
Authorities say both girls are expected to recover from their injuries. Their names and ages have not yet been released.
According to investigators, a fight broke out during the event, and at some point, shots were fired. It remains unclear how many people were involved or what led up to the violence.
A police drone and K9 unit were deployed to canvas the surrounding area, but officers reported coming up empty-handed. At this time, detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit say they have little information on a possible suspect.
