Randall holds off Perryton to stay undefeated

The Randall Raiders may have left Happy State Bank Stadium with their unbeaten record intact, but their 28-21 win over Perryton was far from the dominant performance fans had come to expect. Entering the matchup as heavy favorites, Randall faced a Perryton squad that refused to roll over, pushing the Raiders in what turned out to be their toughest challenge of the young season.

Randall jumped out to a two-touchdown lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the final frame turned into a test of grit and composure. The Raiders had built a 21-7 advantage after three quarters, thanks in large part to a balanced offensive attack, but Perryton stormed back behind the arm of quarterback Cooper Schilling and the hands of wideout Gordo Estrada. Schilling completed 19-of-25 passes for an impressive 311 yards, finding Estrada 11 times for 197 yards and all three of Perryton’s touchdowns. The Rangers’ late surge made for a tense finish, but Randall’s defense held firm when it mattered most.

While Randall had been an offensive juggernaut in their first two games—racking up over 100 points combined against Plainview and Monahans—they found Perryton a much tougher opponent. Quarterback Kaison Benton didn’t light up the stat sheet through the air, throwing for just 75 yards. He more than made up for it on the ground, rushing nine times for 40 yards and two touchdowns. Benton’s mobility was complemented by running back Drayden Ray, who carried 10 times for a team-high 70 yards and a touchdown, helping the Raiders maintain their lead during critical moments.

This game showed that while Randall is still an offensive powerhouse, they are capable of adjusting and grinding out a win even when their usual scoring machine slows down. The Raiders’ ability to withstand Perryton’s late rally speaks volumes about their poise and resilience—qualities that will be tested as the season progresses.

With the victory, Randall improves to 3-0, solidifying their reputation as one of the area’s top teams. Perryton, now 2-1, can take pride in a performance that showcased their talent and potential, particularly in the Schilling-to-Estrada connection.

As the season continues, Randall will need to continue adapting to opponents that are more than willing to challenge them. But for now, the Raiders can celebrate another hard-fought win at Happy State Bank Stadium—unbeaten and still very much in control of their destiny.
