New charges filed in Double D drive-by shooting case following victim’s death

The investigation into the July 3 drive-by shooting on Double D Road in Randall County has taken a tragic and significant turn, as the victim has died from her injuries and prosecutors have filed upgraded charges, including murder, against the two suspects involved.

Authorities say the incident occurred in the 11000 block of Double D Road when shots were fired from a moving vehicle. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Kristie Harris, was struck in the head and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. After nearly two weeks of intensive medical care, Harris succumbed to her injuries on July 15. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death.

Following the shooting, two suspects were arrested in connection with the case. On the day of the shooting, 20-year-old Anakin Harrison was taken into custody and initially charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. A few days later, on July 8, 19-year-old Jacob McCormick was arrested and booked on the same charge.

However, with Harris’s death, the legal status of the case has changed significantly.

On July 17, 2025, the Randall County Criminal District Attorney’s Office formally accepted and filed additional charges against both Harrison and McCormick:

Anakin Harrison now faces:

Murder

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Assault Causing Bodily Injury

Aggravated Assault in a Motor Vehicle Discharging a Firearm Recklessly at a Habitation/Building/Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury

Jacob McCormick now faces:

Murder

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Both suspects remain in the Randall County Jail as the case moves forward. Authorities have not yet released specific details regarding the motive or events leading up to the shooting, and it remains unclear what roles each individual played in the attack. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.

Randall County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with additional information about the shooting to come forward as they continue to build the case.
