A man is in custody following a drive-by shooting that left one person critically injured early Thursday morning in Randall County.
At approximately 7:20 a.m., the Randall County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in the 11000 block of Double D Road. Deputies arrived to find one individual suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. As of now, the condition of the victim has not been publicly disclosed.
Thanks to eyewitness accounts and other information provided to authorities, investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect vehicle and trace it to a possible owner. Deputies located the vehicle shortly afterward and initiated a traffic stop. However, the suspect was not inside the car at the time.
Further investigative work led deputies to a residence believed to be associated with the suspect. Given the violent nature of the incident and the potential threat to public safety, the Randall County SWAT team was deployed to the location.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and is expected to be booked into the Randall County Jail. Authorities have not yet released the suspect's name or any details about potential charges.
“This is still an active and ongoing investigation,” the Randall County Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release. Officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the sheriff’s office or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
