The Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) has deployed equipment and personnel to assist with search, rescue, and recovery operations in flood-impacted areas of South Texas, the department announced Sunday.
Engine 41 and four specially trained firefighters were sent as part of a Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) All-Hazards assignment — a coordinated statewide effort to provide emergency support in times of crisis. The team is currently stationed in Kerrville, one of several communities affected by recent severe flooding.
AFD officials stated that the deployed personnel are expected to serve on the mission for up to 14 days, with the potential for a crew rotation depending on the evolving needs in the region.
“Our thoughts are with the families and communities who have lost so much,” the department said in an official statement. “We are proud to send our personnel to assist in any way we can, and we remain committed to the recovery of those impacted. This deployment is a testament to the strength of mutual aid partnerships and the dedication of Texas firefighters who rise to meet the call when tragedy strikes.”
AFD also emphasized the importance of solidarity during emergencies, urging residents to support those affected.
“Please keep the affected families, first responders, and all involved in your prayers,” the department added. “We’re honored to stand with our fellow Texans during this time of need.”
