A men’s recreational basketball tournament at Rolling Hills Elementary School turned violent Sunday afternoon, resulting in two arrests and one man being hospitalized, according to the Potter County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. during the second half of a game. A fight broke out between players, during which one man was knocked unconscious. An off-duty deputy with the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, who was participating in the league, was able to intervene, break up the fight, and provide aid to the injured man.
While the deputy was assisting the unconscious individual, another man reportedly exited the building and returned with a firearm. The deputy observed the man re-enter with the gun and was able to detain him before any further violence occurred.
Two men were arrested at the scene. The man who was knocked unconscious was transported to a local hospital. Charges are pending for those involved, and the incident remains under investigation by the Potter County Sheriff’s Office.
Rolling Hills Elementary School is located at 2800 W. Cherry Ave. in north Amarillo. The school is part of the River Road Independent School District.
