Young woman killed in early morning shooting on S. Mirror; boyfriend arrested for murder

A young woman is dead and her boyfriend is behind bars after a deadly shooting in Amarillo early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 4, patrol officers with the Amarillo Police Department (APD) were in the 2000 block of South Mirror Street when they heard multiple gunshots ring out nearby. Officers immediately responded to the sound, while Amarillo Emergency Communications simultaneously began receiving 911 calls reporting gunfire in the same area.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered several spent shell casings in the roadway, indicating an active shooting had occurred. While securing the area and beginning a preliminary investigation, police spoke with witnesses who revealed that a gunshot victim had already been taken to a local hospital by private vehicle.

The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Ariana Nicole Estrada. Tragically, Estrada succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Authorities confirmed she suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Due to the nature of the crime, the Amarillo Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit were called in to take over the investigation. Through interviews and other investigative methods, detectives quickly identified a suspect: Estrada’s boyfriend, 21-year-old David Allen Crowder.

Crowder was located and taken into custody without incident. After being interviewed by homicide detectives, he was officially arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of Murder.

Police have not released further details regarding the motive or the events leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
