Elderly man killed in early morning hit-and-run on Amarillo Boulevard

In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 3rd, a tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 73-year-old man in Amarillo. At approximately 1:02 a.m., officers with the Amarillo Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of East Amarillo Boulevard after a report of a person lying in the roadway.

Upon arrival, officers found an elderly male unresponsive in the westbound lanes. Evidence at the scene indicated the man had been struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to a local hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a dark-colored SUV, traveling westbound on Amarillo Boulevard, struck the pedestrian and fled the scene without stopping to render aid or notify authorities. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
