Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) has disclosed a "cybersecurity event" that resulted in the theft of sensitive personal information belonging to some of its patients. The breach, which occurred between September 17 and September 29, affected files and folders on the institution's network.
According to TTUHSC, the compromised data may include names, dates of birth, addresses, driver’s license numbers, government-issued identification numbers, financial account details, health insurance information, and medical records. Sensitive medical details such as billing and claims data, diagnosis information, and treatment records were also potentially accessed or removed.
The affected campuses in Amarillo and El Paso are currently in the process of notifying individuals whose information may have been compromised. As part of their response, TTUHSC is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to impacted patients.
“To help prevent a recurrence, the HSCs are reviewing existing security policies and procedures as part of the investigation and are implementing additional safeguards to enhance system protection and monitoring,” said TTUHSC in a statement.
Patients with concerns or seeking additional information about the breach are encouraged to call TTUHSC's dedicated hotline at 866-902-1996, available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT.
