Three Perryton firefighters were injured during a call on a housefire Thursday night.
According to Perryton City Manager David Landis, a call was received at 10:44 p.m. on a fully engulfed structure fire on NW 2nd Avenue. Both the Perryton Fire Department and Perryton Police Department responded. As they were setting up equipment, firehoses, and traffic control, a 5” soft fire hose was being charged with water and whipped and injured three fighters.
Assistant Fire Chief Scott Glass sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo where he remains in very critical condition. Volunteer firefighter Thomas Beal sustained a broken arm and other fractures and is in stable condition at Northwest Texas Hospital. Volunteer firefighter Jacon Anderson was initially taken to Ochiltree General Hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
Booker and Spearman Fire Departments responded and assisted with the firefighting. Booker EMS assisted with EMS calls. Canadian, Follett, and Beaver County are currently deploying equipment and personnel to assist with final firefighting. The city of Pampa will send a fire engine and personnel to Perryton later today to relieve our personnel for rest.
