District play is officially in full swing across the Panhandle, and Tuesday night delivered a slate of games packed with statement wins, breakout performances, and a few early indicators of who might be setting the pace this season. Here’s a common-sense look at what went down on the hardwood.
District 4-4A Girls
Canyon Flexes Its Muscle
The Canyon Lady Eagles opened district action exactly the way a 12-1 team should—by dominating. Canyon rolled past Pampa 78-28 at Joe Lombard Gymnasium, leaving little doubt that they’re ready to chase another district crown.
Tai Wright set the tone offensively with 16 points, while Kambrie Grasor (15), Gracie Lunsford (13), and BK Crockett (11) kept the scoreboard glowing. When a team has four players in double figures, things usually go well—and Tuesday was no exception.
West Plains Grinds Out a Road Win
West Plains also started 4-4A play on the right foot, muscling their way to a 50-31 win at Borger. Defense and steady scoring did the trick for the Lady Wolves, who moved to 7-9 overall.
Addi Hahn led West Plains with 10 points, but Borger’s Callye Garcia earned the night’s scoring title with 18. Unfortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, it wasn’t enough to keep pace.
District 3-5A Girls
Palo Duro Scores a Signature Road Victory
In one of the more impressive results of the night, Palo Duro went into Lubbock and left with a 48-36 win over Coronado. The Lady Dons are playing with confidence and balance, and it showed.
Tayleeh Meander poured in 15 points, Zeinab Deng added 12, and D’Zyire Burks turned in the kind of all-around performance coaches dream about—eight points, eight rebounds, and seven steals. Palo Duro improves to 15-2 overall and 2-1 in district, positioning themselves as a legit contender in 3-5A.
Amarillo High Stays Unbeaten in District
The Amarillo High Lady Sandies were all business in a 61-22 rout of Caprock, keeping their district record spotless at 4-0. AHS is now 15-3 on the season and looking every bit like a team built to make a postseason run.
Ella Brown led the way with a smooth 20 points, while Mazzy Budd added 11. Caprock, now 9-7 and 1-3 in district, just couldn’t find an answer for the Sandies’ firepower.
District 3-5A Boys
Palo Duro Opens District With Statement Win
Not to be outdone by the girls, the Palo Duro boys took care of Lubbock Coronado in convincing fashion, rolling to a 74-42 road win. The Dons improved to 9-3 and started district play 1-0.
Cuda Clayton was nearly unstoppable, dropping a game-high 23 points. DaJuan Flenory added 15, and Kyron Brown chipped in 13 to round out a trio of double-digit scorers. If this is a sign of what’s ahead, the Dons could be one of the more dangerous teams in the district.
