Lopez throws seven TDs as Amarillo High routs Lubbock High 58-13

Amarillo High made a clear statement Friday night, rolling past Lubbock High 58-13 to remain firmly in the hunt for the No. 2 playoff seed in their district. The Sandies knew what was on the line, and they played like it, especially quarterback Jett Lopez, who delivered a career performance that is sure to be remembered for a long time.

Lopez was nothing short of spectacular, throwing seven touchdown passes and continuing what has been a breakout season. He carved up the Lubbock High defense with precision and confidence, completing 10-of-14 passes for 309 yards. Even more impressive, he spread the ball around effectively, connecting on touchdown passes with five different receivers. That type of efficiency and trust in his skill players is exactly what makes this Amarillo High offense so dangerous.

Still, the connection of the night belonged to Lopez and receiver Tate Blackwell. Blackwell only needed three catches to do big damage, racking up 112 yards and turning every one of his receptions into a touchdown. Whether it was deep shots or perfectly timed routes, Blackwell made the most of every touch, displaying both speed and awareness that Lubbock High simply couldn’t contain.

With the win, Amarillo High improves to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in district play, setting up a massive showdown next Friday at Bivins Stadium against Tascosa. The stakes are straightforward: the winner earns the district’s No. 2 seed behind Abilene High and secures the right to host a first-round playoff game. For a team built around rhythm and momentum like Amarillo High, home-field advantage could prove invaluable.

If Lopez and the Sandies offense continue clicking the way they did Friday, next week’s matchup could be one of the most exciting district games of the season.
