Rep. Ronny Jackson reinstated to retired rank of rear admiral after Navy review

Rep. Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician and retired naval officer, has been restored to the rank of rear admiral after a Navy review overturned a 2022 demotion.

Jackson announced the decision Wednesday, posting a June 13 letter from Navy Secretary John Phelan informing him of the reinstatement.

“After finding good cause to reopen your retired grade determination, and upon review of all applicable reports and references, it is my pleasure to inform you, effective immediately, you are hereby reinstated to the retired grade of Rear Admiral (Lower Half) in the United States Navy,” Phelan wrote.

The Navy confirmed the decision to High Plains Pundit. A spokesperson for Phelan praised Jackson’s service, saying the secretary “greatly appreciates Congressman Jackson's decades of distinguished naval service, and values his continued support to the United States Naval Academy as a member of the Board of Visitors.”

Jackson, who served as a White House physician during both the Obama and Trump administrations, retired from the Navy in 2019. In 2022, he was retroactively demoted following a Department of Defense inspector general’s investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct while serving in the White House.

Jackson denied wrongdoing at the time, calling the probe a “political hit job.”

In posts on social media Wednesday, Jackson applauded the Navy’s reversal.

“I was, and still am, a retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, and Joe Biden is a retired old FOOL,” Jackson wrote on X.

“After the Biden administration’s politically motivated attacks against me, I am pleased to share that my military rank has been fully restored. Thank you, @SECNAV, for righting the wrongs of the last administration,” he added.

Jackson, who represents Texas’s 13th Congressional District, is a close ally of President Donald Trump.

The Navy has not released further details about what prompted the review that led to his reinstatement.
