It took 15 additional hours, but the #6 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs punched their ticket to the program’s fourth NCAA Division II College World Series with a 3-0 shutout win over the #22 Oklahoma Christian Eagles at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.
The teams traded zeroes through the early innings before Avery Cannon delivered a triple to right-center field, putting pressure on Oklahoma Christian just before lightning halted play and pushed the game into a long weather delay.
After a 15-hour pause, action resumed the next morning, with Brooke Janning and Ella Resendiz locked in a continued pitchers’ duel.
West Texas A&M threatened immediately after the restart by loading the bases but a sharp lineout ended the scoring chance.
The breakthrough came in the seventh when Cadence Colborn launched a solo home run to center field, and moments later Cannon added a two-run homer to extend the lead to 3-0.
Oklahoma Christian attempted a response with a late walk, but consecutive ground balls sealed the shutout.
Janning improved to 24-3 with a complete-game effort, allowing just four hits while controlling the circle with poise.
The Lady Buffs now advance as the fifth seed to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Chattanooga, where they will face Cal State San Marcos at Frost Stadium at Warner Park.
The victory marked a dramatic showcase of resilience for West Texas A&M, as the prolonged weather delay did little to cool their momentum in a tightly contested super regional environment, and the Lady Buffs now turn their attention to postseason preparation, recovery, and scouting ahead of their matchup against Cal State San Marcos in Chattanooga, with confidence built from a dominant pitching performance and timely power hitting that ultimately separated the teams in the final inning of play on Saturday morning game.
