17 year old suspect arrested after double homicide in Northwest Amarillo

A 17-year-old suspect is in custody following a double homicide that occurred early Sunday morning in northwest Amarillo, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

The incident unfolded just after dawn on November 30, 2025, when Amarillo Police Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of NW 9th Avenue. Multiple 911 callers had reported hearing gunshots and seeing individuals fighting in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified the victims as 18-year-old Chrisavion Deontay Green and 42-year-old Andy Wayne Curtis Galloway. Authorities confirmed that both families have been notified.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit identified Tavon Lin Ammons, 17, as the primary suspect in the deadly shooting. The Potter County District Attorney’s Office subsequently issued warrants for Ammons on two counts of murder.

With assistance from the Amarillo Police SWAT Team and the PACE Unit, officers located Ammons hiding inside a residence on the south side of Amarillo. Police say he was taken into custody without incident. Ammons was transported to the Potter County Detention Center, where he was booked on the outstanding murder charges.

Detectives spent several hours at the crime scene Sunday morning documenting evidence, gathering statements, and canvassing the neighborhood in search of additional witnesses. Investigators are now working to determine what led to the violent confrontation and whether any other individuals were involved.

The Amarillo Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward. Residents with tips can contact the APD Homicide Unit at (806) 378-9468. Those wishing to remain anonymous may submit information through Amarillo Crime Stoppers at (806) 374-4400 or via the P3 Tips app.

Investigators are also asking area residents and business owners to review their security camera footage from around the time of the shooting. Any potentially relevant video can be submitted through the department’s AXON evidence link.

Police say the investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available.
