Amarillo High heads to playoffs; Canyon, Randall, and West Plains dominate Tuesday slate

Amarillo High is playoff bound once again after handling business on Tuesday night. The Lady Sandies made quick work of Caprock with a dominant sweep — 25-11, 25-12, 25-16 — to remain perfect in district play. Now 12-0 in league action and 26-8 overall, Amarillo will represent District 3-5A in the upcoming UIL Class 5A Division I playoffs.

Sophomore Harper Vaughn continues to be a force on the court, recording yet another double-double with 13 kills and 10 assists. Setter Bennett Rea kept the offense flowing with a team-high 18 assists, helping the Lady Sandies finish the regular season strong.

In District 4-4A, the night played out much as expected, with the top teams keeping their momentum.

Canyon picked up an impressive rivalry win on the road at Hereford, sweeping the Lady Whitefaces 25-14, 27-25, 25-15. The Lady Eagles (17-14, 7-2) stay within striking distance of first-place Randall, while Hereford (15-17, 3-6) took another tough loss. Laney Jones led Canyon’s attack with 13 kills, while Aiva Kerr was a defensive standout, tallying 26 digs. Setter Brylee McElroy guided the offense with 20 assists. For Hereford, Karizma Rivera posted seven kills in the loss.

West Plains matched Canyon’s result with a sweep of its own, cruising past Pampa 25-14, 25-15, 25-15. The Lady Wolves (25-11, 7-2) remain tied for second in district. Kynzie Ward and Aaniyah Kitchen were unstoppable at the net, combining for 29 kills — Ward leading with 15 and Kitchen adding 14. Cecilia Murillo dished out 23 assists to fuel the win. Pampa (17-12, 3-6) couldn’t keep pace against the powerful front line.

Meanwhile, Randall continued to look every bit the favorite in 4-4A, staying undefeated with a sweep of Borger — 25-15, 25-15, 25-10. The Lady Raiders (23-12, 9-0) have officially clinched their Class 4A Division II playoff berth. Defense set the tone as Kambree Gonzalez picked up 22 digs, while Chloe Brown led the attack with 11 kills. Nevaeh Conner added 10 digs in support. Borger (9-20, 0-9) is still searching for its first district win.

With only a handful of matches left, district titles and playoff seeding are coming into focus — and for Amarillo-area volleyball fans, the postseason promises to be full of familiar faces and fierce competition.
