The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred late Sunday night in the 700 block of North Mirror Street, leaving a 74-year-old man dead.
According to police, officers responded to the scene around 11:20 p.m. after receiving a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the man lying in the northbound lanes of North Mirror Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the man was pushing a wheelchair and crossing the street when he was hit by a vehicle traveling north. The driver did not stop and left the scene immediately after the collision.
The case remains under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad. An autopsy has been ordered for the victim.
