A tragic incident unfolded on Labor Day when Canyon Police responded to a report of a child with a gunshot wound at the Palo Duro Trailer Park.
According to the Canyon Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:45 p.m. Monday to the trailer park, located at 5707 4th Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a 7-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy has been ordered to help determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time. It is not yet clear how the child came into contact with the firearm or whether foul play is suspected.
The Canyon Police Department has not confirmed whether any arrests have been made. Additional information is expected as investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
