Duel in Texas: Sid Miller responds to political foe

Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller’s self-proclaimed “RINO hunt” took a twist this week — taking a page right out of American history books and the 1804 contest of honor between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.

On Tuesday, Miller posted to social media a text message from state Rep. Glenn Rogers (R-Graford), an incumbent facing a stiff primary challenge from Mike Olcott — who has been endorsed by Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Miller.

“You are a bought and paid for, pathetic narcissist,” Rogers’ text reads. “If you had any honor, you would challenge me, or any of my Republican colleagues to a duel instead of strutting around posting pictures with a rifle threatening to shoot RINOs. A RINO is any conservative Republican not bought and paid for by [Farris] Wilks and [Tim] Dunn. You are an embarrassment to agriculture and the State of Texas. Kiss My Ass!”

Miller responded, saying, “[Glenn], I accept your challenge. As the challenged party, I get to choose the weapon. I choose words! Let's  debate how you and your RINO buddies sold out the conservative cause.”

The stakes of this duel are far lower than that which left America’s first treasury secretary dead and its vice president a killer, but the boiling 2024 Texas GOP primary keeps getting hotter and hotter.
