Shooting at downtown Amarillo bar leaves man with life threatening injuries


One person suffered life threatening injuries after a shooting incident at a downtown Amarillo bar early Sunday morning.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers responded to the 700 block of South Polk just after 1 a.m. on Sunday after receiving a call about shots being fired in the area. When officers, they were told there had been a large fight inside Chesney’s Whiskey Saloon. 

While the people involved in the fight were being escorted out of the bar, one person pulled out a gun and started shooting. One man was shot during the incident.

Investigators confirmed the wounded man was taken to an area hospital by private vehicle with life threatening injuries. 

The APD Violent Crimes Unit and CSI were called to the scene to investigate.
