Caroline Fairly, a 24-year-old businesswoman from Amarillo, announced an anticipated run for the open HD 87 — currently held by state Rep. Four Price (R-Amarillo), who is not seeking re-election next year. She announced her candidacy with the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
“The Texas panhandle is where I found my faith which will be the foundation that informs my decisions and values. It’s where I learned my conservative principles: to work hard, be Texas tough, and love this great country,” Fairly told The Texan, confirming her run. “We need more leaders like that in Austin—real conservatives who won’t compromise the principles that made Texas great.”
Fairly enters the race after Potter County GOP Chairman Dan Rogers suspended his campaign, saying, “In recent weeks, I’ve had the privilege of meeting a promising young candidate with solid conservative values who is genuinely committed to representing the people of District 87.”
Caroline Fairly is the daughter of Alex Fairly, a prominent businessman in Amarillo who’s become more politically involved in the last couple of years. Most notably, the elder Fairly sued the City of Amarillo over its $260 million end-around voters to authorize non-voter-approved spending and won.
Cruz said, “An Amarillo native, community leader, and passionate conservative, Caroline Fairly understands that at a time when our conservative values are being trampled on, there is nothing more important than standing up and fighting for our Texan way of life. Caroline is dedicated to ensuring that the Panhandle remains a strong beacon of conservative, Texan values, which is why I am proud to endorse her for Texas House District 87.”
