Lady Buffs 32 win match streak ends with loss to CSP


The No. 1 Lady Buffs finished third at the loaded Colorado Premier Classic after falling to No. 2 Concordia St. Paul (27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 7-15) in the semi-finals match on Saturday morning at the Auraria Event Center. The Lady Buffs beat the No. 13 West Florida Argonauts in four to finish third.


Senior Torrey Miller was named All-Tournament.  The All-Tournament team was voted on by opposing coaches from the Colorado Premier Challenge.

By the Numbers

After a tight first set, the Lady Buffs pulled out the win at 27-25 before the Golden Bears took sets two, four and five. The Lady Buffs battled their way to a 2-1 match lead before the Golden Bears forced the fifth set ultimately winning the opening match of bracket play. The Lady Buffs hit .148 in the match, their lowest clip this season, with 47 kills on 155 swings with 24 errors to go along with 61 digs, 44 assists, 17 blocks, and seven service aces.  CSP registered 73 kills with 30 errors on 172 swings to hit .250 with 72 digs, 67 assists, 18 blocks and four service aces. 
 
Two Lady Buffs reached double-figure kills with Torrey Miller (15) and Brynne Wright (11). Sophomore Emma Becker trailed with nine while Ainsley Malis paced the offense with 17 assists followed by Blair Moreland with 16. Bryli Contreras led the back row with 18 digs while Carly Evetts racked up a five  blocks.

By the Numbers

West Texas A&M hit .173 in the four set match recording 46 kills on 139 attacks with 22 errors while picking up 55 digs, 24 blocks, 43 assists and six service aces.  West Florida had 48 kills with 35 attack errors on 155 swings to hit .085 to go along with 62 digs, 18 blocks, 45 assists and three aces. 
 
Emma Becker had a team high 13 kills followed by junior Camy Jones with 10. Malis and Moreland paced the offense with 19 assists a piece. Taytum Stow had a team high nine blocks matching her career high in assist blocks. Bryli Contreras led the team in digs with 17 while also leading in aces, 2, with Torrey Miller.
