Two people dead after officer involved shooting in Amarillo

Sunday night, an Amarillo Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3600 block of northeast 9th Avenue. The license plate on the suspect vehicle did not match the vehicle that it was on. 

There were three occupants in the vehicle during the stop. Other officers were called to assist. The driver was removed from the vehicle during the investigation. 

While speaking with the back seat passenger, he exited the vehicle and pointed a pistol at the officers. The officers fired and struck the suspect. 

The suspect died at the scene. 

A passenger in the front seat was struck by gunfire during the incident and transported to a local hospital. She later died from her injuries. 

The deceased suspect that pointed the gun at Amarillo Police Officers has been identified as 32 year old Andrew Scott Norton. The deceased female has been identified as 38 year old Isidra Clara Castillo. 

This incident is under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit.
