A bomb threat Tuesday forced the lockdown of Canyon High School and nearby Midway Alternative High School. Reeves-Hinger Elementary was placed in secure mode has a precaution.
All of the schools returned to normal class schedules after the situation was resolved.
Law enforcement officials believe this may be a copycat of the incident at Amarillo High School on Monday.
UPDATE 12:40 pm: Canyon High School is all clear. Midway Alternative High School is no longer in Secure Mode.
"Law enforcement authorities and Administrators take every threat seriously. After a thorough investigation, authorities say there was no legitimacy to the bomb threat this morning. The building and grounds have been cleared by multiple law enforcement agencies. Students are resuming a normal schedule, including lunch. We are asking all parents to please refrain from visiting the campus at this time or disrupting the learning environment as we have returned to a normal bell schedule. All students and faculty are safe. We thank our local law enforcement for their quick response and thorough investigation."
UPDATE 12:15 pm: Canyon High School is on lockdown. Students are safe. Multiple law enforcement authorities and administration are investigating a bomb threat. They have cleared exterior areas and continue to sweep the interior. Students have been relocated to the air-conditioned gymnasium, water has been provided. A normal lunch period will be held once the building is clear. Once again, all students are safe. Parents please refrain from visiting the campus at this time.
UPDATE 11:50 am: Canyon High continues to be in lockdown mode as law enforcement continues to sweep the inside of the building. Students have been relocated to the air-conditioned gymnasium, water has been provided. All students are safe.
UPDATE 11:30 am: Reeves-Hinger is no longer in Secure Mode. Midway Alternative High School is now in Secure Mode.
Canyon High continues to be in lockdown mode. All students have been evacuated. The exterior is clear and law enforcement continues to sweep the inside of the school. All students are safe. Once again, parents please refrain from visiting the campuses at this time.
UPDATE 11:05 am: Midway High School is on lockdown as a precaution, due to the lockdown at Canyon High. Reeves-Hinger continues to be in secure mode. Authorities are still investigating at CHS. All CHS students are cleared from the building, and safe. Once again, parents please refrain from visiting the campuses at this time.
UPDATE 10:45 am: Reeves-Hinger Elementary is in secure mode due to the lockdown at Canyon High School. We are asking all parents to refrain from visiting the campus at this time. All students are safe.
10:30 am: This morning, Canyon High School is on lockdown. Law enforcement authorities and administration are investigating a bomb threat. Right now, they are sweeping all exterior areas and preparing students to evacuate the building so interior areas can be checked. Parents, do not come to the campus at this time. All students are safe. Law enforcement are on site. Students are being evacuated to football and practice areas will be monitored by law enforcement while outside.
