Train derailment in northeast Amarillo

UPDATE: The train has been cleared and normal traffic has resumed on Amarillo Boulevard.

ORIGINAL POST: Late Monday morning, Amarillo police officers were sent to the 3300 block of Amarillo Boulevard East on a train derailed.

The train was blocking both lanes of traffic on Amarillo boulevard. It was discovered that power lines were also taken down by the train. Xcel Energy has been notified.

Citizens are asked to avoid the boulevard between Grand and Manhattan until this train is cleared. Police are blocking traffic in the area until the train is cleared.
