Amarillo Professional Firefighters Association endorses four candidates

Tuesday evening, the Amarillo Professional Firefighters Association announced their candidate endorsements for the upcoming Amarillo City Council elections in May.

The organization endorsed the following candidates:

Mayor: Cole Stanley

Place 1: Josh Craft

Place 2: Don Tipps

Place 3: Tom Scherlen

“Some ask why firefighters are involved in local politics. It’s simple: As long as elected officials are involved in the fire service, we’ll be involved in politics.

"These candidates have shown their commitment to furthering strengthening public safety in Amarillo – and meeting the clear challenges that face the city," APFFA president, Todd Peden said.

APFFA has not endorsed a candidate in the Place 4 race at this time.

"The men and women of the Amarillo Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 542 proudly deliver excellent service, are good stewards of city resources, and we give back to the community.

"We also strive to develop strong relationships with elected officials and their staffs to keep our fire department strong," APFFA said in a press release.
