Will she run for mayor? Re-election to Place 2 on the Amarillo City Council? Retire from politics?
Freda Powell, who current holds the Place 2 seat on the Amarillo City Council, will announce her future political plans during a press conference on Wednesday.
Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson and fellow City Council members Eddy Sauer and Howard Smith have already announced they are not running for re-election this coming May.
Amarillo City Councilman for Place 1, Cole Stanley, said he plans to run for re-election to that seat. However, Stanley has not ruled out a mayoral campaign.
If Powell decides to run for re-election to Place 2, she will have a challenger. Amarillo businessman Don Tipps has announced his plans to run for the Place 2 seat.
There has also been speculation that Powell will launch a campaign for mayor, with Nelson not seeking re-election.
Powell graduated from Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. She has a degree in Management Development.
Powell is a former Purchasing Representative for LINN Energy, headquartered in Houston, Texas. She is currently the General Manager for Warford-Walker Mortuary.
