Randy Darnell steps down from Canyon ISD school board after 19 years

On Monday, Randy Darnell announced his retirement from the Canyon ISD school board after 19 years.

“I am retiring from this board effective the adjournment of this meeting. … I have been absolutely blessed and honored to serve. I have served on this board with outstanding people … who love this school district.

“I pray regularly for clarity of thought, wisdom, discernment and the strength to follow through with God’s will for me. As we end this meeting, I am sure that this is my time and that, for most of my 19 years of service, is enough,” Darnell said.

CISD superintendent Darryl Flusche said that Darnell's "impact on the school district and the board of trustees for Canyon ISD has been immense."

"His impact on the facilities, the direction and culture of the school district and the camaraderie amongst board members. Not only his raising of questions but also his seeking of solutions has been invaluable.

"His work with the greater community at large has so much attributed to the success of the district. We honor him tonight for his years of service and commitment.

“I am honored that he was a part of the group that brought me into the district and gave me this opportunity to work side by side with him,” Flusche said.

Darnell was re-elected in 2021. His current term expires in 2025. The Canyon ISD board will announce plans in the near future for people interested in applying to fill the board seat vacated by Darnell.
