APD launches Cold Case Unit

The Amarillo Police Department is excited to announce the start of a Cold Case Unit, which will be a part of the Homicide Unit. The Cold Case Unit will focus on solving murder cases that had previously been stalled by lack of evidence or viable leads.

Amarillo has 49 unsolved homicides dating back to the 1950’s. The department’s goal is to reduce that number and bring justice for families and friends who have been suffering from the loss of their loved one

Evolving technology has made it possible to find new evidence in cases that were previously unsolved. This investigation is tedious and time consuming, but the department is committed to doing this work on every case possible. Additionally, investigators may be reinterviewing witnesses and suspects to gain new information that will lead to case resolution.

As the Cold Case Unit reviews each case, they will be asking for help from the public. If you have any information regarding any of our unsolved homicides, please call 806-378-9446. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 806-374-4400. Or you can download the P3 tips app or go to their website at amapolice.org.
