A new and improved Benton Park

Visitors to Benton Park may not recognize one of Amarillo’s older park facilities in the near future.

Benton Park, located at S.E. 16th Ave. and Vernon Street, is one of the first of 14 City of Amarillo (COA) park facilities to receive a major infrastructure upgrade from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

The park’s playground infrastructure, constructed in 1992, will have a new playground area, including a swingset and merry-go-round. The park parking lot will also be resurfaced.

The Benton Park Improvement Project is a $149,969.76 renovation funded by ARPA funds.

“This project will significantly improve the amenities at Benton Park,” said COA Director of Parks and Recreation Michael Kashuba. “People coming to the park with children will enjoy the new playground, which will improve the overall atmosphere of the park. We are excited to get this project going for the Amarillo community.”

The installation of new playground equipment at Benton Park is scheduled to begin early next week.
