Mark Adams and Texas Tech working on long-term contract extension

Texas Tech and head men’s basketball coach Mark Adams are in negotiations for a contract extension, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Thursday.

Adams ended his first season as Texas Tech’s head coach in the Sweet 16 against Duke on March 24. The loss capped an impressive inaugural season for Adams, as he rebuilt a depleted roster into a 27-10 team. The Red Raiders went undefeated at home and ended the season third in a competitive Big 12 race.

Adams’ coaching performance garnered plenty of media attention and recognition, as Adams was named the AP’s Big 12 Coach of the Year as well as Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year.

Texas Tech intends to reward Adams with a contract that will extend him for at least five years, according to Rothstein.
