Police investigating murder near downtown Amarillo


Early Saturday morning, the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a man who was speaking Spanish. The man quit talking before a spanish speaking call taker could get on the line or an address could be obtained, but the call taker could tell that the male was in distress. 

The cell phone call was traced to the area of the 400 block of southeast 15th Avenue. Emergency personnel responded and located the correct address to be in the 1400 block of south Pierce street. 

Amarillo police officers found the the back door of the location open. Once inside, officers located Gonzalo Zubia, 34, deceased in a back room. 

Zubia died from a gunshot wound. 

The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating this incident.
