On Tuesday, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the Grand Street Discount Store at 1619 N. Grand on an aggravated robbery. 

The victim’s reported that 4 suspects, all wearing masks, entered the store carrying guns. An undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise was taken from the store. The suspects left the store in an unknown direction.

At approximately 9:39 pm, two officers were sitting at NE 9th/Garfield, when a gray 4 door vehicle stopped at that same intersection. The officers observed 4-5 gunshots come from inside this same vehicle.  

Both officers were in marked patrol units and turned on their emergency lights and sirens to stop the vehicle. The subject driving the vehicle led officers in a short pursuit before stopping in the 700 block of N. Garfield and all subjects in the suspect vehicle got out and ran. 

The officers were able to set up a perimeter and more officers including two K9 officers were brought to the area. One suspect was located by K9 Arco and taken into custody and treated by medical at the scene for minor injuries.  The other 3 suspects were located a short time later inside an apartment in the 700 block of N. Garfield and came out without incident. 

Officers were given consent to search the residence.  They found 2 stolen guns and a hand grenade inside the residence. The APD bomb team took possession of the grenade.  Numerous other stolen items were located inside the residence as well. 

From evidence found at the scene and witness and victim information, the 4 suspects were identified as the suspects from the robbery. Three of them are male juveniles, ages 15, 16, and 15. They were booked at the Youth Center of the High Plains for Aggravated Robbery. 

The 4th suspect, 17 year old Raul Ogaz, was booked in the Potter County Jail for Aggravated Robbery, Discharging Firearm in municipal population of 100k or more, and Evading detention in a vehicle.  

This case is still being investigated by the Violent Crimes Squad.
